100,000 people left Valley in last 24 hours

KATHMANDU, Oct 20: The number of passengers leaving the Kathmandu Valley for their homes to celebrate the Dashain festival is increasing. A total of 100,000 individuals left the valley in the last 24 hours.

According to the updated details till this morning, 100,000 passengers have left via public transports in the last 24 hours, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajendra Prasad Bhatt, the spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office. He also said that till today, a total of 466,000 citizens have left the Kathmandu Valley to celebrate the Dashain festival.

Bhatt informed Republica that the number of people moving out of the valley has gradually increased over the past three days. On October 15, the day of Ghatasthapana, 51,279 people left the valley, followed by 51,387 departures the next day.

As many as 73,896 people left the valley on October 17 while 91,102 people on October 18 and 98,332 people on October 19 left the valley. SSP Bhatt said that 100,000 people left the valley till this morning. The police said that the number of people who go by private vehicles is not counted, so many more citizens have left the valley.
