378 Nepalis rescued from Nepal-India border in Baitadi

BAITADI, May 23: As many as 378 Nepali citizens including four grieving family members stranded along the Nepal-India border in Baitadi have been allowed to enter the country on Friday. They have been rescued from Jhulaghat and Pithoragarh.  

They [rescued citizens] were allowed to enter Nepal after a basic health screening at the border. Of the rescued citizens, 162 are from Baitadi, 100 from Bajhang, 30 from Bajura, 11 from Darchula, six from Kanchanpur, five from Dadeldhura, three from Accham, and the remaining from other districts.

According to Lokendra Singh Negi, deputy chief district officer of Baitadi district, citizens of Baitadi have been sent to their respective local governments. “Likewise, citizens from other districts have also been sent to their respective districts. The local administration will monitor their situation,” he said.

As the border has been sealed, the grieving family members were not allowed to enter Nepal. They had stayed in a quarantine facility at Jhulaghat.

In the last two months, Nepali citizens have been allowed to enter Nepal through Jhulaghat border two times. At least 2,500 citizens have already entered Nepal through the border after the government enforced the lockdown.

The Nepalis stuck at Nepal-India border were allowed to enter Nepal after just basic health screening.
