BAJHANG, Sept 9: The district hospital of Bajhang and private medical centers have been jam-packed with the patients of viral infections. Most of them are from the rural villages and have high fever. According to the medical superintendent of the district hospital, Sandip Okheda, viral fever has gripped the people here for the last two weeks. "Hundreds of people are coming to the hospital for treatment. The situation is chaotic," he said. "People are getting sick due to the changing season, consumption of dirty water, the recent floods and so on," he added.
According to Okheda, as the 15-bed hospital does not have the capacity to admit all the patients coming to the hospital, they are referred to private clinics. "But even private health centers are also not being able to cater to the need," he noted. "In serious cases, patients need round the clock supervision and drug administration, but there are very few such facilities which can provide such services to the patients. But there is crowd everywhere, at all health centers," he added.
Jay Bahadur Khatri of Kedarseu Municipality–4 who was admitted at the hospital a few days ago stated that the medicines prescribed by the doctor at a private clinic in his village did not cure him. "So, I had to come to this hospital," he said.
He had mild headache in the beginning followed by fever. He went to the private clinic and took the medicines prescribed by the doctor for three days. "Even in three days, no improvement. Rather, my health deteriorated. I hope they will cure me here," he said.
Another patient at the hospital, Devi Mandal of Pathivara village stated that she is feeling extremely weak even after taking rest and having medicines. "Doctors have told me to take huge quantity of water, soup etc. I am having medicines, and yet my headache and fever has not gone down," she said. Mandal was admitted at the hospital three days ago.
