TAPLEJUNG, Jan 29: Durga Prasai, executive director of B&C Teaching Hospital and Research Center in Jhapa, Birtamod, has claimed that the hospital has not received payment of more than Rs 450 million from the Government of Nepal under the health insurance program.
He said that since the amount was not paid by the government despite several requests, B&C Hospital suspended the state-sponsored insurance program and started Mero B&C, Mero Jeevan Saathi health insurance program in collaboration with Prabhu Insurance.
Speaking at a health camp organised in Phungling, the district headquarters of Taplejung on Sunday, Prasai accused the government of not being aware of the citizens' right to live.
He claimed that the situation of government hospitals and health institutions that receive government funding is much different than the expectation. He also lamented that he was not able to start his medical studies from B&C Teaching Hospital.
Phungling will allocate 50,000 for cancer patients
Phungling Municipality of Taplejung has announced that it will allocate Rs 50,000 per person for the treatment of cancer patients in the municipality.
Phungling’s Mayor Amir Maden announced that they have the data that there are 28 cancer patients in the municipal area and will allocate funds at the rate of Rs 50,000 per person for their treatment. He believes that this support from the local government would be of a big help for the cancer patients.
Tshiring Lama, the head of the District Coordination Committee Taplejung, has requested the hospitals to ensure free treatment for the poor and the family members who cannot pay for the treatment in the remote areas.
He said that private hospitals should shoulder the social responsibility so that no one dies due to lack of treatment. He also said that they are ready to create an effective and strong recommendation mechanism for this.
