District Police Offices to look into disputes related to loan sharking

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The District Police Offices are said to now look into the disputes related to loan sharking.

After the expiration of the deadline of the 'Probe Commission on Unfair Transactions related to loan-sharking', the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has tasked the police with addressing the remaining and new complaints and resolving the disputes.

The MoHA has issued the 'Procedure for Collection and Handling of Unfair Transactions (Loan Shark)', in which it is mentioned that the probe commission will send the complaint to the district administration offices (DAOs) which will forward the pending complaints to the district police offices.

Also, the police will take and handle new complaints. It is stated in the procedure, that “if loan shark victims have missed to file a complaint, they can file a complaint at the District Police Office according to Section 4 of the National Criminal Procedure (Code) Act 2074 BS."

The police will try to promote reconciliation regarding the pending and newly registered loan sharking complaints. It is mentioned in the procedure that if the reconciliation cannot be done within a certain time, the necessary evidence will be collected and the procedure will proceed according to Section 32 of the National Criminal Procedure (Code) Act 2074 BS.

The MoHA has instructed all DAOs and police headquarters to adhere to the new procedure.
