BAJURA, Nov 28: A total of four nursing mothers have died of postpartum complication in Bajura in the first four months of the current fiscal year. Of them, two died in the hospital, while two lost life at health posts, according to a source at Bajura District Hospital.
On Monday, a nursing mother from Jagannath Rural Municipality-5 died at Gotri Community Health Center of postpartum complication. Putali Rawal, 35, died at the health center, confirmed Dr Roop Chandra Bishwakarma, chief at the Bajura District Hospital.
Rawal was brought to the health center in an unconscious state, and she had post-delivery bleeding. Rawal gave birth to a child at home. According to Amar Budha, a staffer at Gotri Community Health Centre, Rawal was bleeding due to retained placenta. “The doctors successfully removed the placenta, and the bleeding stopped. She also gained consciousness. But later, Rawal died when she was basking in the sun,” he added.
Recently, Rejiya Nepali, a resident of Tribeni Municipality-1, also lost life due to postpartum complication at Chatara Health Post. Likewise, Basanti Nepali, a resident of Badimalika Municipality-7, and Nirmala Bohora, a resident of Budhinanda Municipality-10, lost lives at the district hospital.
Rejiya Nepali died six hour after giving birth to a child at Chatara Health Post. She even had light snacks after delivery. According to a health official at the health post, Rejiya died in bed, shortly after giving birth.
Similarly, Basanti Nepali, a resident of Badimalika Municipality-7, lost her life at the Bajura District Hospital. She was 21. She died two hours after giving birth to a child.
Likewise, Nirmala Bohora, 35, a resident of Budhinanda Municipality-10, also died at the district hospital, according to Dr Roop Chandra Bishwakarma.
The locals of the region say the number of postpartum deaths has increased due to negligence of hospital and health posts. Meanwhile, Dr Roop Chandra Bishwakarma said that the number of deaths has increased due to the negligence of the patients and family members.
Meanwhile, the provincial government rescued three pregnant women through helicopter in the fiscal year 2018/2019. Those women were rescued under the President Rescue Assistance Program. It is estimated that more than 10 deaths have been recorded after the fiscal year 2013/2014 in the district.
