KATHMANDU, Oct 12: As COVID-19 cases are making new records every day, the government on Sunday “hinted” at imposing lockdown again to curb the further spread of the virus.

Speaking at a press meet organized to make public the decisions of cabinet meeting, Minister for Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Pradeep Gyawali, the government spokesperson, said that the government is forced to make harsh decisions to save the lives of its citizens.

“The government doesn’t want to impose another lockdown as the festive season is near. Yet, saving the lives of our citizens is the government's utmost priority. So, the government might take harsh decisions to save the lives of people,” said Gyawali.

Minister Gyawali also requested the public to be aware of the severity of the pandemic. “If people are aware the situation will be under control without the government taking any harsh decisions,” he said, adding that the concerned government authorities have been analyzing the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Earlier, the government had imposed a nationwide lockdown from March 24 to July 21 in a bid to curb the spread of virus. The COVID-19 cases have increased sharply shortly after the government lifted the lockdown.
