Hearing on case against Madhav Nepal, Speaker prolonged

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: The hearing on the separate cases filed by CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Speaker Agni Sapkota has been delayed further after the Supreme Court could not conclude the hearing on Monday.

The petitioner has demanded the apex court to issue an order to invalidate the newly-formed party registered by Madhav Kumar Nepal and members of the House of Representatives against whom the party has taken action. A joint bench of justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Kumar Chudal upheld the case after the hearing was not completed on Monday.

A hearing on the case was held on September 7 in which the apex court issued an interim order demanding a written reply. A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana had ordered to call both the parties for discussion. As the hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, the apex court will decide whether to issue an interim order as demanded by Chairman Oli.

UML Chairperson Oli had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking the removal of 14 members from the House of Representative and the provincial assembly and invalidating the new party named CPN (Unified Socialist).

A separate writ petition was filed against Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota alleging he had ignored the termination of members of HoR against whom the party had taken action and also in the formation of a new party.
