Indian national caught with fake citizenship

RAJBIRAJ, Sept 27: Saptari police last week held an Indian national Ramjit Rajak for possessing forged Nepali citizenship. His addressed in the citizenship has been mentioned as Rajbiraj-3 while he had been staying temporarily at Damak Municipality of Jhapa for the past few months.

According to the police, possession of fake citizenship seems rife in the district. In the last three weeks alone, half a dozen Indians were caught with fake citizenship certificates.

"We have been investigating all those cases. Regarding Rajak's case, we have suspected the involvement of staff of the Area Administration Office in recommending for his citizenship," said the Chief District Officer (CDO) Surendra Poudel.

Rajak's citizenship number is 1840/3261. But this number does not tally with the records of the District Administration Office.

According to Poudel, there is a strong network which has been availing such fake citizenships and the administration is desperate to book those people. "We are highly concerned about the matter. Police have been mobilized to find the persons involved in the racket," he said.
