KATHMANDU, May 20: While the results of the local elections are being made public, the leaders of the Janata Samajbadi Party expressed dissatisfaction stating that they have been betrayed by the parties in the ruling alliance.
The JSP concluded that the ruling alliance has betrayed the party in Biratnagar Metropolitan City and in Janakpur Sub-metropolis and the party leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction over the poll results so far.
JSP’s Executive Committee Chairman Upendra Yadav said that the results of the local elections are not as the ruling alliance had expected. “The coalition has not worked as expected,” he said. “I respect the votes cast by the public. We had expected to receive a lot more votes in the election but the number of votes in our favor is very low,” he said.
As of Thursday evening, JSP’s candidates for the post of chairman have won in 15 rural municipalities while the party’s candidates for deputy mayor have emerged victorious in 15 municipalities. Likewise, the party is leading the vote counting in 15 municipalities.
Chairman Yadav’s son Amarendra Yadav was a deputy-mayor candidate in Biratnagar Metropolis from JSP. Amarendra is behind UML’s candidate Silpa Karki by almost 7,000 votes. Manish Suman, a member of the JSP's executive committee, said that the parties in the alliance were betrayed by the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN (Maoist Center). "It simply came to our notice. We also contributed to the alliance but the parties in the alliance betrayed us,” said Suman.
He said that NC has betrayed the party in Biratnagar and Janakpur. He also said that his party would review the results of the election.
In Janakpur, JSP mayoral candidate Lal Kishor Sah is far behind. As of Thursday evening, Sah is in fourth place. In Janakpur, NC rebel candidate Manoj Sah is in the lead.
