RASUWA, Jan 8: A total of 21 households of Naukunda Rural Municipality-1 that were displaced by the devastating earthquake of 2015 and landslides were provided with land ownership certificates on Monday.
The catastrophic earthquake had put these families at the risk of landslides. Forty-three months since the major jolt, these families have been offered land at Langbu. Of the 126 households in the rural municipality at the risk of displacement, only 40 have been successfully relocated so far.
"We have been making efforts for the relocation and rehabilitation of the victims at risk," said Srijana Lama, vice chairperson of Naukunda, adding, "We will slowly relocate all of them." According to her, lack of inhabitable land is making the rehabilitation sluggish. Besides, there are many people who are not willing to leave their ancestral land despite the risk, she says.
There are 3,349 beneficiaries in Naukunda among which 3,282 have received the first tranche of the quake grant provided by the government. Similarly, 3,036 of them have received the second tranche while 2,754 have been provided the third tranche as well.
In terms of Private Residential Reconstruction (PRR), this rural municipality at the first place. However, it lags way behind in terms of rehabilitation. The delayed relocation process has deprived 603 quake victims of the opportunity to rebuild their houses on time.
In Rasuwa, altogether 1,015 households are still at the risk of being displaced.
