Minister should line up like ordinary citizens to get embossed number plate affixed to her vehicle: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU, June 7: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Gagan Thapa has advised Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Renu Yadav, to go to the transport office like an ordinary citizen and get an embossed number plate affixed to her vehicle.

Taking part in the discussion on the budget on Tuesday, he urged Minister Yadav to realize how much the common people suffer as they have to queue up endlessly to get embossed number plates affixed to their vehicles.

Stating that the decision made by the ministry without proper planning has created problems for the general public, Thapa demanded the ministry withdraw its decision of making it mandatory to install embossed number plates to public vehicles within mid-July.

“"If you stand in line to get the embossed number plate as an ordinary citizen to understand the condition of the transport office in Kathmandu, you will realize how much the citizens are suffering," Thapa said. Stating that the transport office is in no state to provide the embossed number plates, he urged the ministry not to make the people suffer.

He also requested Minister Yadav to provide information about the contract agreement regarding embossed number connection.

Similarly, Thapa drew the attention of Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhakri to immediately inform the House about the local obstruction in garbage disposal.

He requested Minister Jhakri to immediately inform the House about the obstruction in the dumping work which has been going on since early Tuesday morning and the efforts to be done for its solution.

Though the initiative taken by the Kathmandu Metropolitan and Ministry of Urban Development in untying the knot of waste management is commendable, it has created obstacles again, he said, adding, "We want to help in untying the knot. We need to know about the ongoing works as it is also our duty as lawmakers.”
