National Development Council meeting on Thursday to finalize 16th Plan

KATHMANDU, April 24: A meeting of the National Development Council is being held on Thursday to discuss the short-term, long-term and periodic development plans formulated by the National Planning Commission (NPC). The primary agenda of the meeting will be to finalize the government's 16th plan.

The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will be held on Thursday from 8AM to 7PM at Hotel Yak and Yeti. PM Dahal, who is also the chairman of the NPC, will address the meeting, along with former prime ministers and top leaders of the political parties.

In the opening session of the meeting, the vice-chairman of the NPC, Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha will present the draft of the 16th plan. After that, the participants in the meeting will engage in the discussion on the draft sharing their perspectives and insights.

Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal will address the meeting.

Likewise, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, JSP Chairman and Health Minister Upendra Yadav, Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) Chairman and former Minister Ranjita Shrestha will also address the meeting.

Then, after the opening session with PM Dahal's address, the discussion will proceed to subject-specific sessions focusing on the draft of the 16th plan. Experts from various fields and representatives from the private sector will join the discussions. They will engage in group discussions and provide necessary suggestions for the finalization of the 16th plan. In the concluding session of the program, the chief ministers from all seven provinces will deliver their remarks.

The meeting of the National Development Council is considered important for formulating the government's 5-year development strategy. The NPC will prepare a 5-year plan for Nepal based on the suggestions given by the participants in this meeting. Therefore, the meeting of the National Development Council is considered as a significant program organized by the government.

All former prime ministers have been invited to participate, and attendance of all chief ministers has been made mandatory. Representatives from local governments and prominent figures from the private sector are also expected to be present at the meeting.
