KATHMANDU, Sept 5: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has warned the government to stop issuing unwanted pressure on the constitutional bodies.
Issuing a 17-point allegation against the government after the conclusion of the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, the NC has also urged the government to stop making transfer of police officials and civil servants to “unduly influence” the by-election scheduled to be held after three months.
Organizing a press conference at the party headquarters in Sanepa on Wednesday, NC Joint General Secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat alleged that the government had made it difficult for constitutional bodies to function independently and impartially by putting unwanted pressure on them.
The party also alleged that civil administration and security agencies were discouraged to act in professional and legal manner and forced to act in tune with the ruling party's diktats.
The CWC meeting that concluded on Tuesday also demanded investigation into various scams including the corruption involving the procurement of wide-body aircraft, sugar scam, Baluwatar land scam, Biratnagar Jute Mill scam, prolonged delay and corruption involving Melamchi Water Supply Project, Ncell tax evasion scam, and Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project.
The NC has concluded that the government is violating the spirit and norms of the constitution in all its moves.
The NC alleged that the ruling NCP has made a mockery of the constitution by holding the posts of both speaker and deputy speaker of parliament, which is against the constitutional provision.
The government, according to NC, has also tried to undermine the constitutional spirit while formulating various legislations including those related to media.
While alleging that the government was bent on infringing upon the civil liberties guaranteed by the constitution, the NC has criticized the government for failing to honor the principle of inclusiveness and proportionate participation of people in various state structures.
Joint General Secretary Mahat said NC will be forced to take to the streets if the government failed to take the issue concerning people's day to day life seriously.
