Nepal achieves historic victory in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup

KATHMANDU, July 19: Nepal achieved a historic victory in the ACC Women's Asia Cup by defeating the UAE by 6 wickets in the opening match of the Asia Cup on Friday. This marks Nepal's first win in the ACC Women's Asia Cup, having previously participated twice without securing a victory.

Nepal successfully chased down the target of 116 runs set by the UAE in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, losing 4 wickets in 16.1 overs. Opener Samjhana Khadka boosted the team’s hopes with an unbeaten 72 runs, showcasing a strong batting performance by hitting 11 fours in 45 balls. Pooja Mahato remained not out with 7 runs.

Other contributors for Nepal included Sita Ranamar with 7 runs, Kavita Kunwar with 2 runs, and skipper Indu Berma with 6 runs. Former captain Rubina Chhetri scored 10 runs before returning to the pavilion.

In the bowling department, UAE's Kavisha Godag took 3 wickets, and Lavanya Kenny took one wicket.

Earlier, Nepal won the toss and decided to bowl first. For the UAE, Khushi Sharma top-scored with 36 runs, and Kavisa Godag contributed 22 runs.

For Nepal, captain Indu Berma took 3 wickets, while Kritika Marasini and Sabnam Rai took one wicket each.

Nepal, in Group 'A,' will compete against Pakistan on July 21 and India on July 23. Group 'B' consists of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Thailand. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
