Nepal records highest single-day spike with 226 cases of coronavirus, COVID-19 tally surges to 1798

KATHMANDU, June 1: Nepal reported highest single-day spike with 226 cases of coronavirus on Monday afternoon.

With this, Nepal's COVID-19 tally soared to 1798, according to Bikash Devkota, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population.

At a daily Facebook live updates, Bikash Devkota, the spokesperson for the ministry, said that two persons tested positive for coronavirus during a test conducted at Biratnagar-based Koshi Hospital.

Gandaki Province Lab recorded three cases of coronavirus while Karnali Academy of Health Sciences alone witnessed 43 new COVID-19 cases. A lab in Surkhet reported 32 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours. Twenty more persons tested positive for coronavirus during tests conducted in Dhulikhel-based laboratory, according to Devkota.

Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory alone reported 92 new cases of coronavirus today. Likewise, Dhanusha witnessed seven new cases of coronavirus, Kapilvastu 38 cases and Mahottari has two new cases of coronavirus.

Makawanpur has one new case of coronavirus. Sarlahi reported 38 cases of coronavirus. Siraha and Udayapur witnessed five and one new cases of coronavirus respectively. Seti Provincial Hospital Lab recorded 18 new cases of coronavirus.

Baitadi, Achham, Doti and Kanchapur districts reported one case of coronavirus each. Kailai district alone reported 14 cases of coronavirus today.

Seven new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Bheri Hospital while Rapti Health Academy of Sciences reported nine new cases of COVID-19.

In view of rising COVID-19 cases, the government has expanded the scope of testing in various parts of the country, the spokesperson said.

Altogether 71903 persons underwent COVID-19 test through PCR method while 113757 persons were tested through RDT method as of Monday afternoon, he said.
