TAMGHAS (Gulmi), July 28: Over 300 people at Urlikhola bazaar in Gulmi have been displaced after the swollen Badighat River started eroding its banks, posing a high risk to the human settlements.
The river that raged following incessant rains since past a few days already swept away three houses in the area, further increasing fear of local people of being swept away and forcing them into displacement.
All houses in the area are empty while those displaced people are forced to take shelter on the streets or in rented apartments with nowhere to go for the same.
Although a meager temporary helps are coming in, concerned authorities are yet to reach the incident sites with a proper management of accommodation and food for the flood victims.
The District Disaster Management Committee and Nepal Red Cross have provided tents to the flood victims. However, the victims complained that the tent apparatus are of low quality and leaks, troubling them to spend nights.
"The rain continues. Motorway has also been swept away by the river. All goods are not in good order. We are having difficulties to manage food," said a flood victim Bishnu Maya Bhandari.
When asked, the District Administration Office said that teams of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been mobilized for rescue operation and for the accommodation and relief management for flood victims. RSS
