Parliamentary Hearing Committee invites complaints against two high court judges nominated as SC justices

KATHMANDU, March 17: The Parliamentary Joint Hearing Committee has initiated the public hearing process of two high court judges proposed as Supreme Court justices.

A meeting of the parliamentary hearing committee held on Wednesday invited complaints against Kumar Chudal and Nahakul Subedi within the next 10 days. 

A meeting of the Judicial Council held on March 12 had proposed Chudal and Subedi as the justices of the apex court. While Chudal is currently serving as the chief judge of the high court in Patan, Subedi is serving as the chief judge of the high court in Surkhet.

The committee will grill both Chudal and Subedi once the deadline given for filing the complaints against them is over. The parliamentary joint committee will make a decision on whether to endorse the nomination after grilling them in the meeting. 

A simple majority in the parliamentary committee can endorse the nominations made by the Judicial Council. However, a two-thirds majority of lawmakers should support any decision to reject the nomination.
