Police arrest ex-Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara's son Rahul Mahara

KATHMANDU, August 30: Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara's son Rahul has been arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police in connection with a gold smuggling case.

Central spokesperson for Nepal Police, DIG Kuber Kadayat informed Republica that Rahul Mahara was arrested from Kathmandu.

Mahara's father and son have been accused of being involved in the case of smuggling 9 kg of gold hidden in electronic cigarettes.

CIB investigation revealed that Rahul Mahara, son of CPN (Maoist Center) Vice Chairman Krishna Bahadur Mahara, had contacts with the person who smuggled 9 kg of gold by hiding it inside e-cigarettes.
