SC issues interim order not to implement RSP’s decision to sack its MP Dhaka Kumar Shrestha

KATHMANDU, May 8: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) not to implement its decision to dismiss its Member of Parliament (MP), Dhaka Kumar Shrestha from the post.

Issuing an interim order on Monday, the apex court has issued a ‘show cause’ notice and invited both parties for discussions.

A single bench of SC Justice Til Prasad Shrestha issued the short-term interim order. According to SC administration, the RSP has been ordered not to implement its decision to sack its MP Shrestha from the position as long as lawyers of both parties conclude their arguments and the court issues a final verdict on the case.

Earlier, Shrestha was dismissed from the position of MP by the RSP after an audiotape of him allegedly demanding Rs 20 million from medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai was released. 

In the audio tape, Shrestha is clearly heard asking Prasai for money stating that he is going to become the health minister and for that he has to pay money to the party.

Protesting against the party’s decision, MP Shrestha had filed a writ petition at SC demanding that the court halt RSP’s decision to dismiss him not only as an MP of the party but also a general member.
