Self-proclaimed ‘ascetic’ Bamjan taken to Sarlahi at 1:30 AM; police to produce him before court today

SARLAHI, Jan 11: Ram Bahadur Bamjan, the controversial self-proclaimed ‘ascetic’ from Ratnapuri, Bara, Nepal, who was arrested from Kathmandu on Tuesday, has been brought to Sarlahi. Bamjan, who was arrested on charges of murder, rape, and torture was taken to Sarlahi at 1:30 AM on Thursday.

“Bamjan, who was arrested from Budhanilkanth in Kathmandu on Tuesday, is ready to be produced before the Sarlahi District Court today,” said SP Prabin Dhital of the District Police Office, Sarlahi.

After the Sarlahi District Police Office issued arrest warrants in two separate cases on charges of missing girl and sexual exploitation, Kathmandu police took Bamjan to Sarlahi headquarters, Malangwa, overnight for further action.

Bamjan, who was brought to Sarlahi at 1:30 AM on Thursday, is currently being held at the District Police Office, Malangwa.

Bamjan is accused of disappearing 28-year-old Rita Bote on January 2, 2019.

Somni Bote, the mother of the missing girl, filed an application at the District Police Office, Sarlahi, for the search of Bote, formerly of Karmaiya Rural Municipality ward number-2 of Sarlahi and lately living in Bagmati Municipality-12.

The police have sent the file to the Bara District Court after investigating the allegation that Bote was 'disappeared' by Bamjan from Halkhoriya village in Bara. As the incident happened in Bara, Bamjan will also be produced before the Bara District Court in this case.

On February 6, 2020,  a complaint was lodged at Sarlahi District Police Office about sexual gratification and sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl in the forest of Pattharkot in Sarlahi.

It is mentioned in the police complaint that two other people also help Bamjan in doing such evil deeds. The District Police Office, Sarlahi, identifies the victim as 'Ka', hiding her real identity for the privacy of the victim. The victim herself escaped from Bamjan's captivity and lodged a complaint with the police.

After the police complaint was filed, the police did a thorough investigation and submitted the file to the District Attorney's Office. On July 2, 2022, Sarlahi Police Office registered a case at the Sarlahi District Court through the district attorney’s office.

Kailash Dahal, Chief of District Attorney Office, Sarlahi said that an investigation has been conducted against Ram Bahadur Bamjan and two others. Dahal said that the case has been filed against the main accused Ram Bahadur Bamjan along with Gyan Kumar Bamjan and Jeet Bahadur Tamang. Gyan Kumar Bamjan and Tamang appeared before the court and were released on bail, while the main accused Ram Bahadur Bamjan was on the run. Bamjan was arrested from Kathmandu on Tuesday.
