Supreme Court orders PM Oli to be present at court with written response to contempt case

KATHMANDU, Jan 28: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday ordered Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to present himself at the court with a written response to the case of contempt of court filed against him within seven days excluding travel time.

Conducting a preliminary hearing on the writ petitions filed against PM Oli, a single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma asked him to present himself at the court with a written response on ‘why he [Oli] should not be taken action for contempt of court’.

Two separate cases of contempt of court were filed against Prime Minister Oli at the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Senior advocate Dr Kumar Sharma Acharya and advocate Kanchan Krishna Neupane filed two separate contempt of court cases against the prime minister for his ‘demeaning’ remarks against senior-most advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari.

In their writ petitions, the advocates duo have condemned Oli's remarks denigrating senior-most advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari.

At a public event on Friday last week, the prime minister attacked Bhandari, calling him a “grandpa lawyer” and describing his presence at the ongoing hearing at the Supreme Court as a “farce".
