Three arrested for sexually abusing Raute women

SURKHET, June 6: Police have arrested three persons for sexually abusing young women of the Raute community living a nomadic life in the forests. According to the Surkhet Police, three persons including Chaman Gharti (Jogi) of Gurbhakot Municipality-9 have been arrested for sexually abusing two young women of Raute community living in Anpsoti of Gurbhakot Municipality. The accused allegedly sexually abused, recorded and made the video public through Facebook after getting them drunk in a hotel. 

In the video, Chaman and two young women are seen in a room of the hotel. Chaman has addressed one of them as wife. Both Raute girls seem to be drunk. Chaman, who lied down with the Raute girl, is seen ordering more alcohol.

The District Police Office, Surkhet, has arrested Bhupendra Budha and hotel operator Binod Pun along with Chaman after the video of them sexually abusing the girls was made public.

Abuse of young women from the Raute community has been on the rise and covered on social media including YouTube and TikTok. In the name of making videos on YouTube and TikTok, those who reach the Raute settlement have made them drink alcohol, make them speak obscene words, and sexually abuse them.

Chief of the DPO, Surkhet Superintendent of Police Rajendra Bhat said that the ‘perpetrators sexually abusing the Raute girls have been arrested and an investigation team under the command of an inspector of Police has been sent to the Raute settlement for further investigation. "After reaching the settlement, the police will conduct further investigation," he said.
