Tilottama Municipality to pay 12.5 percent of the premium

BHAIRAHAWA, Oct 26: Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi district has decided to help farmers by providing additional subsidy on crops and livestock insurance as part of its efforts to promote commercial agriculture.

The local body has announced to pay half of the 25 percent of the insurance premium that farmers are required to pay.

The central government pays 75 percent of the premium for coverage of the risks on the crops and livestock.

Speaking at a press meet organized to brief media representatives about achievements that the new local representatives made in 100 days since assuming office, Mayor of Tilottama Municipality, Basudev Ghimire, said that the municipality decided to provide subsidy on premium of crop and livestock insurance for helping farmers as well as promoting commercial farming. He also said that the municipality has decided to pay two percent interest subsidy on loans of up to Rs 1 million borrowed by Dalits and women from banks and financial institutions. But such loans must be secured by groups for agricultural activities, according to Ghimire.

He also said that the municipality will now focus on implementation of plans and programs that it prepared in the first 100 days since the new local representatives assumed office.

According to a statement distributed at the press meet, the municipality said that it has repaired damaged roads and improved service delivery at Municipal Health Centre based in Bhalawari of Tilottama-7. The municipality has also started implementation of the plan to operate homestay facilities in Tilottama-13 and started bidding process to build a view tower at Banbatika of Shankarnagar.

“Similarly, we are also preparing Integrated Town Development Master Plan for systematic urbanization in the municipality,” added Ghimire.

He also said that work on development of a park and tree plantation along the six-lane road to beautify the city has already started.

Similarly, Khageswari Chaudhary, deputy mayor of the municipality said that clean-up programs are organized regularly on 1st and 15th of every Nepali month. “We have also set up a disaster relief fund,” she added.
