Anti-graft body itself indulged in abuse of authority: Youth leaders
KATHMANDU, July 30: Civil society members and independent citizens will take part in a campaign titled “Walk with Dr KC” on Saturday.
The campaign will begin at 11 am from Maitighar. The walk will reach the parliament to make a clear stand against the corruption in Nepal.
The event is managed by Solidarity for Prof Dr Govinda KC Alliance.
“The corrupt need to learn that this is a start of a new anti-corruption "mad" movement in Nepal,” the alliance said, adding that the corrupts' days of freedom are on a countdown.
Meanwhile, youth leaders representing various political parties on Friday blamed the office bearers of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) for being involved in abusing authority themselves.
In a program entitled “CIAA, Parliament and Good Governance” organized in Kathmandu on Friday, they said that top leaders of all political parties do not dare to speak out against CIAA chief as their track record is not clear.
Members of Parliament (MPs) have become like development activists, said Ghanashyam Bhusal, deputy general secretary of CPN-UML. “Most of the MPs have misused Constituency Development Fund. That is why they remain silent over the misuse of power by CIAA,” he said.
In the program, Ramhari Khatiwada of Nepali Congress accused CIAA officials of being involved in abusing the authority. “CIAA officer bearers themselves have not submitted their property details,” he said, adding that they do not hold moral ground to ask others to submit property details when they themselves are not transparent.
Many evidences show that CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki is involved in corruption, said another MP Dhanaraj Gurung. “But leaders are still reluctant to initiate impeachment against him.”
