The erosion of land from above and below has led the villagers to abandon their settlements. The displaced villagers have sought shelter in community buildings and schools. “We go to our homes in the morning and return to the community buildings or schools in the evenings,” Lal Kaji Shrestha, a local resident, said.

A huge landslide has swept away around 4,000 ropanies of farmland without leaving a trace. Locals of the area are worried about their homes being destroyed as well.

Last year, as many as 24 houses were damaged by landslides and had buried a few others. The government had given assurances to provide relief and support to the victims.

Earlier, Provincial Social Development Minister, Saraswati Basnet and Minister of Internal Affairs, Keshav Pandey had assured to provide relief of Rs 400,000 to each family.
