2 more COVID-19 patients recover, now 38 active cases in Nepal

KATHMANDU/ DHANGADHI, April 22: The number of active COVID-19 cases in Nepal has come down to 38 as two more patients recovered and were discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.


With this, the number of patients who have recovered from the disease and returned home has reached seven. No death has been reported so far.


According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a 32-year-old man from Dhading was discharged from the Teku-based Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital on Wednesday, 29 days after he was admitted to the hospital. Director of the hospital, Dr Sagar Rajbhandari said that the patient tested negative for the virus in the fourth test.

The man had arrived in Kathmandu from the United Arab Emirates on March 19. After staying at a hotel in Kathmandu, he had reached the hospital after developing COVID-19 symptoms.


Similarly, another man – a 40-year-old India returnee - also tested negative for coronavirus and returned home after recovery on Wednesday itself.


After staying at the Seti Provincial Hospital for 19 days, the man from Bedkot Municipality, Kanchanpur, tested negative for this deadly disease in the last two tests, according to the spokesperson for the hospital, Jagadish Joshi.


With this, the number of patients winning the battle against COVID-19 in Sudur Paschim has reached three. Earlier this week, Raj BK, 24, and Amrit Shahi,34, were discharged from the hospital.


Of the five confirmed cases in Sudur Paschim, two patients - a 34-year-old woman of Dhangadhi-5 and another 65-year-old woman from Lamkichuha Municipality-1 - have been receiving treatment at the Dhangadhi-based Seti Provincial Hospital. The condition of both patients is normal, according to the hospital administration.


Of the 38 active cases in the country, one (Baglung), two (Patan), two (Dhangadhi), four (Birgunj), two (Bharatpur) and 24 (Biratnagar) are receiving medical treatment. Three new patients were also sent to Biratnagar for treatment on Wednesday.


Earlier on Wednesday, the MoHP said that three new patients tested positive for novel coronavirus disease. According to the spokesperson for the ministry, Dr Bikash Devkota, three males of 24, 60 and 72 years of age tested positive for the deadly virus via the PCR method at a lab in BPKIHS, Dharan.


With this total number of COIVD-19 patients has reached 45.
