30 illegal guns collected from north Dhading

DHADING, April 17: District Police Office (DPO), Dhading, has seized 30 country-made guns from the northern parts of the district over a period of ten days.

DHADING, April 17: District Police Office (DPO), Dhading, has seized 30 country-made guns from the northern parts of the district over a period of ten days.


As a part of its campaign to collect illegal weapons, police collected those guns from Rubi Valley, Ganga Jamuna and Knaiyabas Rural Municipalities of the district. Police had launched a 35-day campaign after the government banned the activities of Netra Bikram Chand's Communist Party of Nepal (CPN).

Bhagirath Pandey, the chief district officer (CDO) of Dhading, claimed that the campaign was successful and the administration organized various awareness campaigns. The campaign kicked off from April 5. Police managed to collect 16 guns from Khaniyabas alone.


Obeying the order of the Police, locals surrendered the guns at the nearby police stations. To collect the illegal arms, a police team led by CDO Pandey had gone to the district headquarters Dhadingbesi while a joint team of Nepal Police had reached the northern part of the district recently.


The local government has said those who do not surrender their illegal arms within the stipulated deadline would face stern action.The northern part of the district is considered sensitive in terms of security. Over the past decade, seven people have been killed in the district and 30 persons have been jailed in connection with the possession and use of illegal firearms. Likewise, 10 persons who were sentenced to jail are still at large.
