31 taken under control for investigations into killings of two 'shamans'

MALEKHU, July 24:The Dhading Police have arrested 31 people for investigations into the recent incident that ended in the deaths of two people. They were presented before the District Court, Dhading today. 


According to District Police Office's Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ram Bahadur KC, 31 people including four women were taken under control today from Latab of Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-2 of northern Dhading and presented before the court today itself. A mob allegedly beat local shamans Sahila Tamang, 65, and Narung Tamang, 54, to death, on the accusation of causing harms to people lives and cattle through the use of black magic. The two were held in captive on July 21 and succumbed to injuries resulted in from the beatings by villagers on July 22.

The locals allegedly barred the outsiders and a local representative from seeing the dead who were burnt (by villagers) secretly. 


It is said that Sahinla was the witch doctor while Narung was his assistant. The District Police Office has already recorded statements of the arrested.
