LUMBINI, Nov 16: A total of 36 people in Rupandehi have been infected with dengue virus as of Tuesday, said the District Public Health Office. Butwal city has outnumbered other cities and villages in the district housing dengue patients with 20 infected with dengue virus.
The number of people contracting the disease may go up this year, said vector control inspector at the DPHO Kedar Nath Shah.
53 dengue patients found in six days in Chitwan
General physician at the Universal College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) Dr Prabin Khatri said the number of dengue patients has increased dramatically in the district this year.
He said the hospital was receiving patients of dengue, also some of them in their initial phase. Of the patients tested positive for the disease, some are receiving treatment at various health facilities including UCMS, Teaching Hospital, Lumbini Zonal Hospital, Butwal Hospital Private Limited and Amda Hospital, while other returned home after treatment, Khatri said.
Earlier in 2071 B.S. nine people infected with dengue virus were found in the district while five in 2072 B.S.
Dengue is transmitted to people by the bite of an Aedes mosquito that is infected with a dengue virus. Meanwhile, in the face of the outbreak of the disease, the government through local bodies have been running awareness campaigns at doorsteps. RSS
