KATHMANDU, July 27: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has postponed its working committee meeting for indefinite period after failing to solve the Three Star’s compensation issue.

After the heated discussions between the committee members over the Three Star issue on Wednesday, the meeting was postponed for Thursday. But ANFA’s president Narendra Shrestha postponed the meeting by posting a notice on the wall of the meeting venue, an hour before the scheduled time, on Thursday. As per the notice, the meeting was postponed until further notice.

“At the moment, the main issue of discussion is related to the overall future of Nepali football. We feel that more homework is needed,” Shrestha said: “So the meeting was postponed to hold enough discussions with all to reach a conclusion.”

Regarding the Three Star issue, Shrestha said: “Different views and opinions over the Three Star issue were put forward during the meeting. A division league has been halted for a few years and we must resume it. But then the issue related to Three Star should be solved properly as it is linked with the overall future of Nepali football.”  “We will resume the meeting after further discussions with everyone,” he said.

Due to the negligence of ANFA, the Nepali football giant Three Star was deprived of an opportunity to play in the second round of Asian Football Federation (AFC) Cup.  Despite the reminder from the federation, the Nepali football government body failed to register Three Star’s name for the tournament. This ousted Three Star from the continental club tournament.

After getting deprived from an opportunity to play the Asian football’s second-tier competition, Three Star had announced not to take part in any football activity until the ANFA paid it compensation and punished those responsible for this situation.

Three Star had demanded ANFA to pay Rs 60 million in compensation but there were reports that both the parties had agreed on a figure of Rs 15 million. As per reports, ANFA had also promised Three Star to send it to three international tournaments as part of the compensation.

Except for solving the Three Star issue, the major agenda of the meeting were to discuss upcoming elections, league and women’s tournament, and scarcity of infrastructure.

Discussion on the agenda items except the Three Star issue was held in a cordial manner.

ANFA’s honorable president Tashi Ghale, vice-president Bir Bahadur Khadka, members Pankaj Bikram Nembang, and Basanta Aryal among others demanded to punish those responsible for the Three Star’s situation before paying the compensation to the Nepali football giant.

According to inside sources, ANFA had formed a committee to investigate on the Three Star issue, which said ANFA’s general secretary Dhirendra Pradhan, employees Gokul Thapa, and Basanta Rijal among others were responsible for the issue.

Some members in Wednesday’s meeting had demanded that action should be taken against those held responsible by the committee.
