BAITADI, Nov 24: Baitadi, a district in the far-western, in the fiscal 2072-73 BS, exported herbs weighing 979 quintals.
According to the District Forest Office, Baitadi, various species of herbs including chhutro (berberis asiatica), bay leaves, kaulo ( machilus odoratissima ), gooseberry, reetha or soapnut ( sapindus mukorrossi) and bojho ( acorus calamus) were exported from the district.
Likewise, preparations are on to establish a processing center for soapnuts in the district with a view to helping the locals in income generation activities. The annual production of soapnuts in the district is 440 tonnes. Gokuleshwor area, Pathan Municipality and Chwangadh here are known as pocket areas for the soapnut production.
Research is going on to find out a market for soapnut powder, said District Forest Officer Prabhat Sapkota said. RSS
