BANKE, Jan 19: After Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Ramesh Lekhak laid the foundation of Postal Highway on Wednesday, locals of Banke are hopeful that the construction of the vital highway would soon resume.
Bridges construction on Postal Highway delayed
The highway would serve as an important link that stretches across the entire southern belt of the tarai. Its construction was halted after Indian contractors who were assigned for the task walked away leaving the work incomplete. The construction of Nepalgunj-Bagauda road stretch along the highway has resumed after the task was assigned to two contractors for the completion of the 44 km road section.
Papu Lumbini JV and Kathmandu Construction Company were given the contract worth Rs 660.6 million, according to Hulaki Road Project. The contractors said the road would be 11 meters wide, out of which five meters would be blacktopped. The work would be completed within 30 months.
