PALPA, Aug 23: The names of top 20 women entrepreneurs were announced amid a program in Palpa district on Tuesday.
They were picked from among 251 applicants based on public votes through SMS.
Ten among the selected entrepreneurs will be awarded with cash prize to encourage them to do even better in the future, Meenu Maharjan of Daayitwa Nepal, one of the organizers of the program.
The organizers plan to select top 10 entrepreneurs through monitoring of the businesses run by the selected women.
This kind of program helps promote women entrepreneurship, said Chief District Officer Baburam Gautam. “Entrepreneurship is crucial for sustainable economic development of the country,” he said, adding that more and more jobs should be created through entrepreneurship in the district and the country as a whole.
In the program, Madhav Basyal of Innovation Action highlighted the role of women in making the district self-sufficient in various sectors.
Women's economic empowerment can be achieved by motivating more of them to embrace entrepreneurship, he said.
The program was jointly organized by Daayitwa and Innovation Action Palpa.
