BPKIHS installing additional medical equipment to provide better COVID-19 treatment

KATHMANDU, Oct 31: The BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) is installing additional medical equipment in the hospital to ensure better treatment to the ever increasing number of COVID-19 patients.


Dharan-based BPKIHS is one of the major frontline hospitals in eastern Nepal, which has been providing COVID-19 treatments along with other medical services for decades.

Since the government lifted a six-month long nationwide lockdown enforced to contain the spread of COVID-19, the country has witnessed a sharp increase in the infection of this disease. The hospitals designated for COVID-19 treatments have been overwhelmed and are under-equipped.


In the view of providing better treatments to COVID-19 patients, BPKIHS is installing 10 Ventilators, 10 Non-Invasive Ventilators (NIV), 25 High Dependency Unit (HDU) and eight sets of High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), according to a press statement issued by the BPKIHS.


Similarly, the hospital is also installing an oxygen port in every bed of COVID Hospital and is increasing its bed capacity.


As of Friday, BPKIHS has conducted more than 73,000 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests and treated more than 1,000 COVID-19 patients.
