KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, who is currently on a visit to Europe, has called the European Commission for enhanced level of support in infrastructure building and skills development in Nepal.
In a meeting with President of the Commission Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Wednesday, Dr Mahat also called for an increased support for post-earthquake reconstruction to help meet resources gap particularly in housing grant, education and health, according to a press release issued by the Mission of Nepal to the EU.
UK pledges more fund for post-quake reconstruction
At the meeting held at Juncker's office in Brussels, the Foreign Minister requested him to lift the ban imposed by the EU on Nepali airlines, citing the progress made by Nepal in aviation safety. He also appraised the President of the recent political developments in Nepal, including the amendment of the constitution and preparations for holding of elections in the stipulated time frame.
On the occasion, President Juncker reiterated the EU's continued support to Nepal and stated that the EU would consider the possibility of enhancing support and cooperation in the areas as requested. The President also assured the Foreign
Minister of looking into the request to lift ban on Nepali airlines positively based upon the facts to be provided by the Government of Nepal.
Earlier, the Minister had a meeting with the Vice-president of the EU Commission Federica Mogherini.
Foreign Minister Dr Mahat is scheduled to have separate meetings with the Luxembourgish Prime Minister, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Development Cooperation in Luxembourg today, adds the release. RSS
