Call to form govt in Bagmati Province within 4 days

Hetauda, Jan 5: The Province Chief's Office, Bagmati Province, has called upon the parties to form the government in the province within the next four days. Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma has called on the parties for the appointment of the Chief Minister by 4 PM on January 9.


Prakash Chapagain, the spokesman for the Province Chief Office, said that the member of the provincial assembly who can get a majority with the support of two or more parties represented in the provincial assembly, has been called to be appointed as the chief minister of Bagmati Province, according to Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.

According to Clause (1) of Article 168 of the Constitution of Nepal, when no single party has a clear majority to stake claim to the post of Chief Minister, the province chief calls for the formation of the government according to clause (2).


In the 110-member Bagmati Provincial Assembly, the largest parties are Nepali Congress (37), UML (27), Maoist Center (21), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) (13), CPN (United Socialists)(7), Nepal Workers and Peasants Party  (3) and our Nepali Party (2).


The support of 56 MPs is needed to form the government. Due to the change in the power equation at the center, there is no possibility of forming a government with the Congress, even if it is the largest party.


According to the latest discussion, preparations are being made to form a government in Bagmati Province with the participation of the CPN-UML, Maoist Center and RPP.


Leaders of parliamentary parties of all the three parties- Jagannath Thapalia of UML, Shalikram Jamkattel of Maoist Center and Uddhab Thapa of RPP - have staked their claims to the post of chief minister.
