KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has instructed the government bodies to speed up the road expansion drive in the Kathmandu Valley.
In a meeting with the representatives of concerned ministries and other government bodies at its headquarters in Tangal on Sunday, CIAA acting chief Deep Basnyat directed them to complete the road expansion without further delay. The CIAA instruction comes at a time when the general public has been suffering due to the snail-paced road expansion work in Kathmandu Valley.
He also ordered the instructed the authorities to implement the building code effectively.

"Pedestrians and motorists have been facing serious difficulties due to the delay in road expansion work. Many houses in the Kathmandu Valley which were built in breach of the building code have posed serious problem in the road expansion work," Basnyat told top bureaucrats adding. "So I request all the concerned bodies to take the issues seriously and work accordingly."
Navin Kumar Ghimire, a commissioner of the CIAA, underscored the need for effectively monitoring those sectors. "In the name of the road expansion, they have dug up the roads and roadsides and left the work incomplete," he said.
Secretaries from Finance Ministry, Land Reform and Management, Urban Development, members of Kathmandu Valley Development Authority and Chief District Officers from Kathmandu valley among others were summoned aiming at to accelerating the road expansion drive.
