KATHMANDU, July 4: Leaders of the civil society have demanded making the meeting of the Group of Eminent Persons, taking place from today, fruitful.
A team comprising people from different sectors including political scientist Prof Dr Gopal Shiwakoti, conflict expert Dipendra Rokaya, woman leader Shanta Shrestha and Chairman of the Press Council Nepal, Borna Bahadur Karki, among others, submitted a 24-point memorandum with a special request to the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Speaker, Foreign Affairs Ministry and major political parties.
They demanded the 1950 Sugauli Treaty and other treaties and agreements signed after that should be made public as well as scrapping the Sugauli Treaty and making necessary revisions in it in the GEP meeting.
The memo also demands revising unequal treaty and agreement between Nepal and India and making the Gurkha regiment systematic, among others.
The first meeting of GEP, comprising experts of both countries for the study and review of all aspects of the Nepal-India relations, has begun here from today. RSS
