Constitution amendment bill can be revised and endorsed: Kamal Thapa

KHOTANG, Jan 13: Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and former foreign minister Kamal Thapa has said that the constitution amendment bill tabled in the Legislature-Parliament can be revised and endorsed by the House.

KHOTANG, Jan 13: Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and former foreign minister Kamal Thapa has said that the constitution amendment bill tabled in the Legislature-Parliament can be revised and endorsed by the House. Inaugurating the 1 MW Mewakhola Hydropower in Diktel Municipality-10,  however, said that as several clauses of the amendment bill are against national interests, the bill has to be revised before it is endorsed by the House.


Thapa said that there is no alternative to revising the amendment bill and endorse it through parliament in order to end the current political deadlock. He also warned that it would be counter-productive if attempts are made to endorse constitution the amendment bill as it is.

“The Madhes-based parties are unhappy over the amendment bill. Similarly, the people of Province 5 are agitated. Some parties have been obstructing the House. Our party, too, thinks that certain provisions in the amendment bill are against national interests,” Thapa said, “So, if the goal is to unlock the current deadlock, then the bill has to be revised and passed through the House.”


He also made it clear that his party will not support it if attempts are made to pass the amendment bill through parliament as it is.


Thapa also demanded from the government to declare the dates for local elections at the earliest. “The country will plunge into a crisis if all three levels of elections – local, provincial and federal – are not held within a year,” he warned.
