UDAYAPUR, Sept 14: Tensions ran high at District Hospital, Udayapur after the death of a pregnant woman earlier this week. The agitating family members of the deceased were refusing to claim the body of the woman since the last two days, accusing the hospital authority of negligence.
Finally, after three rounds of meetings between the victim's family and the hospital authority, the family members were handed over the dead body on Tuesday.

The controversy was resolved when the hospital authority agreed to open a fund worth Rs 100,000 immediately for the education and other expenses of the children of the deceased. Ram Kumari Danuwar, 38, of Chaudandigadhi Municipality-9, who was admitted to the hospital on Sunday after labor pain, died in course of treatment on Monday morning.
Family members had encircled the hospital blaming the authorities for the death. Relatives of the deceased had demanded for legal action against the hospital and also demanded that the hospital take responsibility of the three children and secure their future.
As informed by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Fanindra Baral, the hospital will keep increasing the fund with time. He further informed that the hospital will collect the money within five days. Ganga Bahadur Danuwar, husband of the deceased, said that a committee has been formed for the collection of money in the fund.
However, this is not the first time that the district hospital courted controversy. Earlier too, there were two such similar cases. Family members of those two women had also picketed the hospital demanding compensation.
