A discussion scheduled for October 7 at the SC on the writ petition was postponed. A single bench of SC Justice Deepak Raj Joshee had issued an interim order on October 2, directing the authorities not to proceed with the admission process and summoned both sides for a discussion.
The petition was filed by examinees including Reshma Baniya, complaining of irregularities in the results of the entrance exams. The students securing at least 50 percent marks in the single door entrance exams will be eligible for getting admission at IOM colleges across the country.
Following the court’s decision, IOM Dean Dr JP Agrawal said that the admission process will move forward after the Dashain festival
The entrance exams for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), Bachelor in Dental Surgery, Bachelor in Public Health, Bachelor in Pharmacy, Bachelor of Science in Medical Lab Technology, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor in Nursing courses were held on September 22 to 24. About 15,000 students appeared in the entrance tests conducted by IOM for the new academic session, which is scheduled to begin from November 17.
According to the IOM, 4,500 students obtained the minimum required marks to get admission for a total of 661 MBBS seats at all medical colleges under Tribhuvan University. IOM had earlier planned to begin the admission process and counselling of students from October 20.
