KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Nepali Congress leader and democratic fighter Shivadwoj Basnet passed away at the age of 96 last night at 1 am.
Basnet was jailed numerous times in course of the uprising for reinstatement of democracy. He had been active in politics with BP Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala for a long time.

Basnet, who was born in Solukhumbu, had been living at Bouddha of the capital city. NC President, Sher Bahadur Deuba, honoured his mortal remains by draping the party's flag before his last rites were performed.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters. NC central member and lawmaker, Ambika Basnet, is his daughter. RSS
