Dhangadi tense ahead of PM's visit, 70 arrested

DHANGADI, Dec 7: Cadres of CPN-UML and Rastriya Janamorcha are demonstrating at the major thoroughfares of the city on Wednesday to protest the arrival of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.


They have obstructed the roads accusing the Prime Minister of bringing the constitution amendment bill at the behest of India.

Dhangadi is tense following the protest by student and youth wings of UML and Rastriya Janamorcha.


PM Dahal is arriving in Dhangadi to inaugurate Far Western Festival. He is scheduled to inaugurate the festival at the ground of Zonal Police Office.


Police have cordoned off the field. PM Dahal will reach the venue by road after arriving at the barracks of Nepal Army (NA) in Boradangi through a chopper.   


“Security has been beefed up, but no restricted zone has been announced,” said Chief District Officer, Govinda Rijal, “So far, no untoward incidents have been reported.”


Meanwhile, police have arrested 70 protesters to contain the situation.
