According to the police, Mahato killed his daughter Koshila, who was living at her maternal uncle’s home, on July 27, near Supaulia Bridge in Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality of Parsa, and dumped her body on the banks of the Imritiya river.
The Parsa police found Koshila's body on July 29. Koshila's body was found in a state where the body and head were separated and thrown at a distance of 50 meters, whose identity was revealed only about 20 days ago, according to the Bara police.
On July 29, the police found the body, but its identity could not be established. According to Komal Shah, Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Parsa, the case was put on hold after receiving no information about the body. However, Shah said that after the locals informed the police about her daughter's disappearance for about five and a half months, Mahato confessed to have killed her daughter during interrogation.

“After the identification of Koshila's body, her father was arrested and further investigation into the incident was started. Detailed information is yet to come,” Shah said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of the District Police Office, Bara, Suresh Kafle said that after receiving information from the locals of Triveni that Mahato had disappeared his own daughter, we launched an investigation which revealed that the father was involved in the murder of the daughter.
SP Kafle said that after getting the information that the daughter had been missing for four months on January 4, 2023, more than 20 people in the village and the family were interrogated. It was then found that the father had disappeared and killed his daughter and tried to hide the incident.
"Initially, when asked about her daughter's disappearance, Harindra tried to hide the incident by replying that her daughter was missing," Bara Police Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Dadhiram Neupane said.
According to the preliminary investigation of the police, the deceased girl was studying in Class 8 of the local Ganga Shah Secondary School and she was killed because she was in a love relationship with the local Krishna Baitha.
According to the police, Mahato also said that his daughter was sent to her maternal uncle's house in Bishrampur, Parsa, after there was a rumor about her relationship with Baitha in the village.
Police spokesperson Dadhiram Neupane said that Baitha belonged to the Dalit community and the family had repeatedly pressured Kaushila not to have any relationship with him, but Harindra accepted that he was forced to kill her daughter after rumors spread in the village about her relationship with Baitha.
According to District Police Spokesperson Neupane, Mahato along with two accomplices admitted that he had taken his daughter and killed her in a car, and threw the body on the river bank.
The Bara police conducted a preliminary investigation and handed over the arrested Mahato to the Parsa police for further action as the incident occurred in Parsa.
