Flights to Biratnagar to be affected for few more days

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Domestic airlines have announced that their flights to Biratnagar will be halted for a few more days. 


As the massive floods have submerged the Biratnagar Airport, the airlines companies decided to cancel their flights to the commercial center of the eastern Nepal.

Even on the second day of the floods, airlines were unable to fly their domestic flights because of poor weather condition. According to officials of Buddha Air, flights to Biratnagar and Tumlingtar could not take off even on Sunday.

Flights to other destinations were also affected by the floods. Buddha Air said that its pilots were forced to diver flights to Bhairahawa and Pokhara to other airports, while flights for other destinations faced delays.


“Due to heavy rainfall causing flood in Biratnagar Airport, we regret to announce that flights are cancelled for August 14 and 15,” Buddha Air wrote on its Twitter page.

Similarly, Yeti Airlines also has announced to halt their flights to Biratnagar till Monday. Yeti Airlines Manager Bhim Raj Rai said that flights to other airports, however, resumed from Sunday. 


The airline also took to Twitter to inform passengers about cancellation of its Biratnagar flights. “Due to the flood at the runway, flights to Biratnagar will not be operated till August 15. Apologies for the inconvenience caused,” the airline tweeted.


Another domestic carrier, Saurya Airlines, has also canceled its flights to Biratnagar till Monday. It could not fly operate fight to Bhairahawa and Biratnagar on Sunday, it could land at Nepalgunj only after 4 pm. However, the airline could operate its flight to Bhadrapur flew on time.  Likewise, state-owned Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has halted its flight to Biratnagar until further notice. According to NAC officials, flight to Khanidanda, which was canceled on Saturday, will be operated on Monday. It operated flight to Bhojpur, which was canceled on Saturday, on Sunday.


Floods in different parts of the country have affected operations of flights to airfields there. Flights to airports in eastern Nepal have been affected since Saturday morning.
