CHITWAN, August 17: Incessant rainfall in the southern part of Nepal has badly affected fish, banana and poultry farming in Chitwan. Places famous for banana and fish farming such as Khairahani, Kumroj, Pithuwa, Ratnanagar, Jagatpur and Meghauli, among others, have been inundated due to continuous heavy rainfall.
According to Poultry Byabasai Manch's Executive Officer Shiva Prasad Baral, around 30,000 layer chicken and 15,000 boiler chicken have been destroyed due to the flood around Chitwan area.

Baral shared, "This is just the preliminary report and it is likely that the total damage will be higher. The situation is critical as small poultry firms have faced more destruction than bigger poultry firms.”
Similar is the situation of local fish farmers as the flood destroyed fish farming done in 60 hectares of land, according to Lularaj Tamang, secretary of Nepal Matsya Byabasai Sangh Chitwan.
Similarly, the flood has destroyed banana farms as the lands have turned into lakes due to the flood. Local farmers fear that the banana plants will rot if the water does not dry up soon, as per Bishnuhari Panta, president of Chitwan Banana Utpadak Sangh.
