Former King Shah undergoes heart treatment

KATHMANDU, July 19: Former king Gyanendra Shah has undergone heart treatment at Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu on Wednesday.


A team led by Dr Yadav Dev Bhatta performed angioplasty after the former king was diagnosed with complications in his heart. The doctors decided to conduct angioplasty for Shah's treatment after medical report showed a block in a valve of his heart during angiography.

The former king who celebrated his 70th birthday on July 7 had visited Norvic Hospital after his family doctors Dr Kishor Jung Rana and Dr Yadav Bhatta suggested him for follow-up treatment.  He had undergone similar angioplasty after complication in his heart even in the past. 


Sources close to Shah's family said he will spend a few days in the hospital for rest as per the suggestion of doctors involved in his treatment.


The ex-king is undergoing thorough treatment at a local hospital, while republican leaders have been flying abroad for general treatment spending money from the state coffers.
