KATHMANDU, Oct 17: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested a murder convict Raju Ghale, 35, after 15 years of crime committed under the effect of alcohol.

According to the CIB, a group of 10 people including Ghale had murdered Subarna Gurung, 19, of Old Baneshwor, with a sharp weapon on November 2, 2000 at Thamel-based Julie 54 discotheque. A minor dispute among the two had led to the heinous crime.

Ghale, originally from Bhaaka VDC-3 of Manang district and residing at Dobichaur-17 in Kathmandu, had attacked Gurung with sharp weapons causing fatal injuries; CIB Spokesperson SP Dibesh Lohani said adding that Gurung succumbed to his injuries at Bir Hospital on the same day of the attack.

Ghale, who had been arrested immediately after the incident, had escaped on October 3, 2002 after being released on bail. Ghale had then sneaked to South Korea as a migrant worker after he was released on bail.

But based on a long investigation, the District Court Kathmandu on December 26, 2007, had sentenced Ghale to life imprisonment in absentia after finding him guilty of the murder. Tipped off by a special source, a CIB squad had arrested Ghale from Khichapokhari of Kathmandu about two weeks ago. As government offices were closed, he was presented before the court only on last Sunday.

Ghale was then sent to the central jail, Sundhara for serving terms.
