KATHMANDU, Dec 27: The government has informed the federal alliance which also includes the United Democratic Madhesi Front that it would take together the constitution amendment bill and the bills relating to the elections.
The federal alliance was urged for the support on such bid of the government during the meeting of the ruling Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist-Center) and the alliance held at Prime Minister's residence on Tuesday.
In response, the alliance leaders showed positive gesture, saying they would participate in the elections if the constitution was amended. They decided to continue talks and reach a conclusion.
Similarly, the meeting urged the major opposition CPN-UML to clear the obstruction at Legislature-parliament.
Senior leader of the Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel, informed that the government would hold talks with the UML on Wednesday and reach a conclusion on issues relating to elections. "The UML is urged to help hold local body elections before coming May because the local body elections would help pave way for the elections at provincial and federal levels," he added.
Maoist party leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the Tuesday meeting concentrated on holding elections on the constitutionally stipulated timeframe.
Leader of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Hridayesh Tripathi, said they demanded the government that it took together the constitutional amendment proposal and the bills on elections. "The UML too needs to respect parliamentary process," he stressed.
The meeting was attended by PM and CPN (Maoist-Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, leader Shrestha, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi, leader Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, General Secretary Sashank Koirala, and Chairman of Federal Socialist Forum, Upendra Yadav, among others.
